“Follow Your Dreams”
JOYQuotes
I have entitled this post “follow your dreams” and the story begins like this…
The 9th of August was Women’s Day in South Africa and also coincidentally my son’s birthday. I often tell the story that he arrived in somewhat of a hurry at 1.26 am on the 9th of August 2011. It was almost as if he wanted to be born on Women’s Day because he knew what the day signifies in the history of our country.
Scheduled C -section
I never made it to my scheduled C-section and a VBac was not what was planned due to previous surgery. In the moment you don’t stop to think what might have gone wrong, which thankfully nothing did. In retrospect though it was one of the most empowering days of my life. If you have given birth without any pain medication you’ll know what I mean.
It was also a significant and empowering day in South Africa’s history when the women of our country followed their dreams and stood up against the injustice of the apartheid pass laws.
Women’s Day in South Africa and what it represents
Women’s Day commemorates the anniversary of the great Women’s March of 1956 where women marched to the Union Buildings to protest against the carrying of pass books in terms of the country’s apartheid laws. The protest was supported by mothers, daughters, sisters and friends who came together to protest injustice and initiate change. Women’s Day in our country celebrates the strength, determination and resilience of women and their contribution to our society and country.
Follow Your Dreams
It does not matter if your dream is to change a country or to accomplish a goal always remember to follow your dreams. Work hard to make them a reality. If you fail try again. And again. Until you succeed.
